BookFest is United Way’s annual event to support summer reading for elementary schools across Lane County. The KTLSC donated money to buy books, and a few board members volunteered to package books to be delivered to schools, and also to help students select their summer books.

A message from United Way:

“Thanks to you, and your fellow volunteers across Lane County, we brought BookFest to 14 schools across eight school districts – from Mapleton to Marcola, Eugene-Springfield to South Lane – reaching over 1,500 young readers. With your help, K-2 students in our local schools chose and took home more than 7,500 books, building their home libraries and helping to keep their reading skills sharp during the summer break.

We are so grateful for your help and support. Together, we unloaded hundreds of boxes, sorted thousands of books, stuffed hundreds of bags for students, and helped our young BookFest participants find brand new books that they will love and cherish. Together, we’re investing in a love of reading and strengthened literacy for our youngest Lane County residents.

On behalf of everyone at United Way of Lane County – as well as every teacher, every school, and every child who participated this year – thank you!
